Biography

Emilie Thalund is an award-winning director known for being a sensitive observer with a strong visual instinct. She first gained international acclaim in 2018 winning Gold at the YDA Cannes Lions for her debut film, Period, a bold exploration of a globally taboo subject. Since then, her commercial work has included purpose-driven organisations and global brands including Doctors Without Borders, IKEA, ALDI, Burt’s Bees, and Pandora.

Most recently, Emilie marked a milestone in her career with the feature debut of Weightless (Vægtløs). Premiering at the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2025 and winning the New Director Award, the film went on to receive the FIPRESCI Critics’ Choice Award at the Gothenburg Film Festival in 2026, cementing her status as a distinctive new voice in contemporary Danish cinema.
