Nadia Marquard Otzen is a highly experienced film director with a talent for marrying the authentic with the fictional, creating truthful emotion through moving images.
A graduate of Central St. Martins School of Art with a background in photography and fine art, she debuted with the experimental film album ‘Black Summer’ by The Pony Tales, an eerie tale of delinquent youths in the untamed environment of the Faroe Islands. The film opened the prestigious CPH:DOX festival to much acclaim, and established Nadia as a filmmaker with a passion for raw storytelling and original music, leading naturally to a move into music videos for artists such as Years and Years, Emeli Sandé, LANY and The 1975.
This earned her several awards and nominations including Best New Director at the UK MVAs and a Grammy for best video, as well as being named one of ten female directors you need to know by Campaign magazine.
Whether she works with big names like Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki from The Crown, or street casting young teenagers in the Faroe Islands, her films feature a rare authentic sensibility, honed by her love for human emotive story-telling, which in turn earned her commercial acclaim by clients such as Levi’s, Netflix, Ikea, eBay, Weekday, Velux and Zalando to name a few.
Nadia continues to find success through honest and finely crafted visual storytelling that explores fleeting moments of lyricism, intimacy, and a curious eye.
