Laerke Herthoni is one of the most influential and leading commercial directors in Scandinavia. In both 2015 and 2017, she was nominated for Best Commercial Director at Sweden’s annual Roy Awards — she was also the first female director ever to receive a nomination. She also won the Grand Prix at Cannes Lions for her work with Volvo, as well as accolades at major international advertising competitions, including Epica, Eurobest, The One Show, and Guldägget.

Her first short film Alba premiered at the Gothenburg Film Festival in 2020. Her next film, Surprise, starring Pernilla August, Rolf Lassgård, and Aliette Opheim, competed at the Gothenburg Film Festival, the Palm Springs ShortFest, and the São Paulo ISFF 2023, and is now available for streaming on the national Swedish channel, SVT. At the Stockholm Film Festival 2023, she received an Honourable Mention in the 1 km Film competition for her film Weekend, which premiered at the Uppsala Short Film Festival in October 2025.
