Casting Call

Sharif Abdel Mawla is an Egyptian director, born and raised in Amsterdam. Working across commercials, music videos, short films and features, his films balance tongue-in-cheek humour with political nuance. Observational and timeless, yet always toying with filmic self-awareness, he marries cinematic craft with subtle social commentary and surrealism in a way that feels entirely his own.

His commercial work for global brands has earned him several awards, including a Cannes Lion, Webby and CICLOPE, with work also featured on Nowness, i-D, and It's Nice That. Sharif directed the CBS TV series ‘Bestseller Boy’ and is currently developing his second feature film, following his debut ‘Casting Call’.
