Sandra Winther is an award-winning Danish-born, New York-based director known for her authentic, vibrant documentary storytelling that centres on the human experience. A passionate surfer whose quest for waves has taken her around the globe, she approaches filmmaking with the same exploratory spirit: endlessly curious and deeply respectful of her subjects.

Her work spans commercial collaborations with Nike, Adidas, Toyota, and Samsung, editorial films for Vogue Scandinavia, and documentary shorts that have garnered critical acclaim. Her short, 'A New Wave', released by The New York Times with an accompanying Op Ed, profiles South African surfer Mikey February with rare intimacy. Premiering at SWSW, her latest short, 'Lowland Kids', follows teenagers on a disappearing Louisiana island and is now being developed into a feature film with Darren Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures. Across all formats, Sandra knows how to turn the real into something cinematic.
