Meanwhile is a group exhibition featuring the work of four contemporary Swedish visual artists: Amanda Gylling, Noah Agemo, Andy Allen-Olivar, and Ailin Mirlashari — each artist chosen for their ability to “push the boundaries of what photography can be”.

“For me, it's been about creating visual choreography, playing with forms… I can really see that dance is a big influence in my work.”
There are two parts to her exhibition. One is a mix of images that merge her fashion work with personal projects, often featuring still life. The other is a large collage of documentary travel photography; “I do a lot of my own projects while travelling, and I travel a lot, it's a big part of my expression. So it's an archive of work from eight to ten years back.”
Exhibition producer Mohamed Mire encouraged Gylling to think outside the frame, quite literally. Inviting her to conceptualise installations, she had free rein to explore the multidimensional possibilities of her work, giving her photographs their own life within the space.
“I played with the shapes and images as if they were arms and legs… I'm very drawn to things that feel like they have a life without being human, like a lively essence.”
Contrast, texture, and play are defining aspects of Gylling’s work. “I wanted to create a dynamic kind of dance between the images.”
“Like, the image that is set in natural stone is framed in glass, then there's another image coming out of a metal arm. The image is really soft; it's of a dress being [held out into the frame] so we've extended the arm from that exact point. So it's about giving the image a body.”
Working almost exclusively with analogue photography, Gylling considers it an essential part of her practice, its unpredictability reflecting the moments she captures.

“This exhibition is about all of the above – a playful attempt to hold on to something fleeting.”
Meanwhile is on at Fotografiska Stockholm from 17 Oct 2025 - 1 Mar 2026.
